Utah part 3

After going to campus, we drove up to Salt Lake to have dinner with Emily and Jared. On the way out of Kent and Alicia's neighborhood we saw this sign. It was on the side of a driveway. Weird...

While we were up in Salt Lake, we drove through Gordon's old neighborhood in West Jordan where he grew up. He lived in this house until he was 10. His parents built it when he was 4, so he has lots of fun memories from this house and the neighborhood.

We also drove by his old elementary school there. It was destroyed by fire a while back, so it's been completely redone. It's on a really big lot with lots of grassy area for the kids to play in. We don't realize how much we've gotten used to not seeing grass until we travel.

After the tour...it was on to dinner with Emily and Jared. We went to Emily's favorite place... "Red Robin...yum!" (Anyone remember the commercial? Or is it just me singing that in my head?) How cute are they!

The four of us at dinner. Our waitress was kind enough to take a picture. Usually they just snap it and leave. Not her. She took one, looked at it, and then told Jared that he had to smile and she was going to take another one. ha.

Sunday morning we were getting ready to head home. We heard on the news that there were some fires along I-15 and that a stretch of it was closed. Yikes! We take 15 South almost all the way home! We looked online and saw that it was closed for about 70 miles around Beaver. We were looking for alternate routes and trying to figure out what to do, when it re-opened. We took off and drove through. We found out later that it closed again about an hour after we passed through. Phew! Anyhow...it was crazy. Everything was burnt. And we could see little fires off in the distance as we drove through. Here's some proof.
