So today has been quite the event. I'm not sure how much (if any) news of the fires jumping all over Southern California was reported in other parts of the country, but we were actually surrounded by fires from the north, east, and west at one point this afternoon!! This video was taken this afternoon before we realized exactly how many fires were burning. Those that were near us were only 3 of 8 fires that were out of control with the largest of the bunch burning homes only a few miles from our own. There were quite a few mandatory evacuations on the north and east sides of the Santa Clarita Valley but it looks like our area is safe and there are some shelters being set up not too far from us. We're right in the middle of the valley so there's a good size buffer between us and the dry brush that's causing all the problems in getting the fires under control.
It's been interesting to watch and we're glad we're safe, too. The wind was blowing really hard when we took this video so you may not be able to understand everything we say in the video.

Here are some other pictures from this afternoon.

ohmygosh! How scary! Those pictures are so...foreboding!
Whoa! That's crazy, I hope they get those fires under control before they spread any more. It looks like you have a pretty view of the mountains though...
We heard about all the fires on the news and were wondering about you guys. Glad to know that you are okay. We hope they can get the fire under control.
That's so scary! I have been watching the news, but I had no idea that you were so close to all of that! Wow! Crazy pics!
Pretty spectacularly scary photos.
That video is awesome by the way. I love the "oh, by the way, check out this Armageddonesque plume of smoke above us."
